Hong Kong Airlines, a Chinese carrier, have announced plans to commence a three times a week service between Hong Kong and two Australian airports.

The air service will commence on 8 January 2016. The plan is to operate from Hong Kong to Gold Coast and then continuing to Cairns before returning to Hong Kong. An 292 seat Airbus A330 aircraft will be deployed on the route which will operate on Tuesday, Fridays and Saturdays.

Australian authorities have welcomed the new service noting that Australia has seen a steady rise of visitors from Hong Kong, with most visiting for holidays rather then for commercial reasons.
