Qantas Airlines, Australia's largest airline, have announced it will re commence flights to the Gold Coast, complementing services by its low cost subsidary Jetstar.  From late October Qantas will operate three daily return services between the Gold Coast and Sydney.

The Gold Coast passenger lounge, currently used by Jetstar, will undergo a refurbishment and be reopened as a Qantas Club by the end of 2012. Qantas will also introduce smarter, faster check-in kiosks for ease of checking-in for Qantas passengers at the airport.

Qantas have acknowledged that the Gold Coast region forms Australia's sixth-largest city and is a fast growing premium market both for vistors and inhabitants.

The Queensland Government has welcomed the return of Qantas to the Gold Coast and have asked the airline to consider increasing services to other Queensland locations.
