Crikey.com aviation reporter Ben Sandilands is reporting Virgin Airlines and VIPA, the largest pilot union in the Virgin Australia group, have negotiated a new enterprise agreement which has secured pay rises of up to 28%.

Crikey.com aviation reporter Ben Sandilands is reporting Virgin Airlines and VIPA, the largest pilot union in the Virgin Australia group, have negotiated a new enterprise agreement which has secured pay rises of up to 28%.

The agreement took two years to negotiate and according to VIPA it offers significant improvement over the current common law contracts.  The agreement is still to be ratified by the pilot workforce.  A ballot will be conducted over the next two weeks.

 The agreement includes provison for comprehensive consultation between pilots and mangagement, and the introduction of a credit system that measures overtime and work preformed.  VIPA acknowledge that the outcome would probably occurred without the guidance of new Virgin CEO John Borghetti.  Mr Borghetti is committed to increasing Australian based employees to the maximum extent possible.
