The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Mr Anthony Albanese has announced to signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding between Australia and Indonesia which almost doubles the number of flights that can be operated between the two countries.

The aviation market between the two countries has been growing at an average of 32 per cent per year over the last three years.  Effective immediately the deal increases the capacity to 27,500 seats a week up from the current cap of 14,800 seats.  The cap allows for up to 25,000 seats from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth to Bali and Jakarta.  A further 2,500 seats are permitted to these destinations providing there is a stopover at another Australian international airport such as Adelaide, Cairns or Darwin.  The MOU specifies airlines of both nations permission to offer code share arrangements with non Australian or Indonesian airlines on routes between Australia and Indonesia to ensure demand is met.
