Qantas announced this week that they were aquiring more aircraft to allow for expansion in all business segments.

The new aircraft, for delivery through to the end of the 2012-13 financial year comprise

  • lease of five additional B737-800s, and the extension of leases on two B737-800s, for Qantas
  • lease of 10 additional A320s, and the extension of leases on 11 A320s, for Jetstar
  • lease of one A330-200 for Jetstar
  • purchase of 10 Fokker 100s for Network Aviation to bring the number in the fleet to 12
  • lease of two additional B717s for QantasLink

Qantas currently has a goal of retaining at least 65% of the Australian domestic market. These purchases underline the confidence of Qantas in the continuing economic recovery from the GFC crisis.  Qantas is currently Airservices Australia's largest customer.
