Several news organizations are reporting Chinese operator Hainan Airlines have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Avalon Airport to establish international services between China and Avalon Airport.

Several news organizations are reporting Chinese operator Hainan Airlines have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Avalon Airport to establish international services between China and Avalon Airport.

Avalon Airport is located between Melbourne and Geelong.

The MOU is to establish both air frieght and commerical airline operations between Avalon and China within the next 18 months.

Hainan Airlines is China's fourth largest airline and boasts a fleet of nearly 500 aircraft covering about 570 domestic and international routes.

The MOU has been welcomed both by the Victorian state government and local community leaders.
