Australian Aviation magazine is reporting that Skywest Airlines has announced an order for five ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft which they operate on behalf of Virgin Airlines. 

Skywest currently operates  four 68 seat ATR 72-500s for Virgin Airlines on routes in and out of Sydney and Brisbane.  Skywest expects to take delivery of four 68 seat ATR 72-600s in early 2012.  The latest order of five ATR 72-600s are scheduled for delivery between early 2013 and early 2014. 

The latest five aircraft will bring the total to 13 ATR 72s operated by Skywest by mid 2014.  The current order which totals over $295 million also includes the option for a further eight ATR 72-600 aircraft over the following few years.
